"David & Nadia Grenache Noir 2021 Swartland (13.5%) Twelve pickings across five different vineyards supply the grapes for this pan-Swartland Grenache. Using concrete and old oak-aged portions, as well as 60% whole bunches, this is savoury, bright and layered, with goji berry and wild strawberry fruit, fine tobacco leaf tannins and impressive focus. "The 2021 Grenache Noir comes from five vineyards with younger vines than the Chenin, mainly planted in the early 2000s that oblige two green harvests. Sixty percent is fermented and matured in concrete and using 60% whole bunch. The bouquet is very well defined and transparent; red cherries intermingle with raspberry and slate-like scents. The palate is well-balanced with fine tannins and superb acidity. Fine, bitter cherry notes towards the finish fan out wonderfull; this is a top-notch Grenache. "Grapes from five Swartland sites, the majority from a Paardeberg vineyard planted in the early 2000s. 12 different pickings were done and winemaking saw 60% whole-bunch fermentation before maturation lasting 12 months, 60% in concrete and the rest in old oak.

The nose is complex but equally unshowy – red currant, cherry, pomegranate, a hint of rose, olive, white pepper and earth. The palate has excellent fruit purity to go with a great line of acidity and powdery tannins, the finish extremely long and dry. Narrow and poised." – Christian Eades
